Time of Plenty

An essay documentary using the collapse on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) as a metaphor for the climate catastrophe we are heading towards. The Polynesians who settled on the world's most remote island a thousand years ago literally felled the branch they were sitting on. By eradicating the forest on the island, they destroyed their own livelihood. Isolated in the Pacific Ocean, the hungry islanders turned to the greatest source of protein available: humans. But was that really how it happened? And was the great disaster self-inflicted? The story of Rapa Nui can serve both as a warning of the end of humanity and as a testament to human adaptability. Narrated by Renate Reinsve.
